2) Study for Quiz #6 "Hooked on the Net".

Homework

1) Write a 1 page essay about any of these two topics:

a. "If a were a millionaire..."

b. Social network concerns: What would I change about Facebook? Why?

2) Read the following scenario and answer the questions below. I expect answers from a high school student!

There's no meaningful difference in Cideb Town since your water privatization deal. Nowadays, with so many unsolved issues, post-election chaos has become a nightmare for you, the new head of the town.

"The Resistance" lead by Mr. Jaime is calling for civil disobedience. Your intelligence and security services have detained prominent critics of the state who use the Internet to spread the opposition and a cover operation for a coup d'etat (military coup). But your Parliament fears that without enough enforcement, your government will be toppled by a popular uprising.

In an attempt to set order back, your assembly suggest to: a) diminsh the people's freedom of speech and b) to ban the right to publicly voice their disagreement in mass gatherings such as rallies and protests. The new policy includes a strong content filtering and blocking social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and even uploading your camera-and-mirror type photos in Metroflog!

After reading the above, answer the following questions:

a. Is censorship a fair measure for authorities to ensure peace and stability in their countries? In what extent should content regulation be possible to prevent harm to societies? Think, besides the benefit of consumer freedom, about the possible threats and consequences from a free Internet.

b. Whether you like it or not, explain your steps to handle the situation. Remember that the old guy from high school wants your removal and detention. The aftermath from a handful of awkward decisions continues....

1/2 page at least!

c) Suppose you were a reporter in Libia and you decide to "cross the line" involving in the story to help the injured and sick. In your report, you'll be certainly including the fact that you're trying to help to treat a patient in your story. But people will argue that you're exploiting the sick and injured.
